White Paper: IFPUG Report Generator Rule

Using current counting practices, as established in CPM 4.0, the various functions provided to an end user by a Query or Report Generator were reviewed and categorized as FPA Function types (i.e., ILFs, EIFs, EIs, EOs and EQs), Functional complexity (i.e., OETs, FTRs and RETs) of these functions was established using CPM 4,0 definitions.

A Query Of Report Generator provides business users the capability to define and create their own displays or reports using data fields which are currently available from existing ILFs or EIFs. Parameters are designed, developed and delivered so that a user can select the fields (and their source) to be displayed, the criteria for their selection, the format in which they will be displayed and any other rules for their display. These would not include pre-defined queries or reports.

The Function Point counting guidelines for sizing these techniques were contained in the IFPUG FUnction Point Counting Practices Manual, Release 3.4, but they were omitted from Release 4.0.

The tools and techniques used to maintain a Query or Report Generator vary greatly and are not considered as part of this document.
