White Paper: IFPUG Improves the SNAP Method: A New Approach for Sizing Software Help

Providing documentation to assist users in working with the software (referred to as “Help”) is a typical practice associated with software development. This documentation is often mandated by software development contracts, and a metric measuring the amount of documentation delivered is needed. Lack of a statistically significant, quantitative metric to size the non-functional requirements for Help reduces the accuracy of cost estimates, or it can lead to underestimation and underpayment when the software costs are based only on function points1 delivered.

The "Help Methods" subcategory addresses the need for sizing the non-functional aspects of Help, applied in numerous forms such as users’ manuals, pop-up Help, Help from static web pages, etc. These will be further discussed in this white paper.
